Willow House Counselling

General Information

What to expect
For the therapeutic process to be effective for you as a client you will need to assess your own level of commitment to the process. Therapy requires regular weekly sessions (can be done fortnightly in some cases) and for both parties to be fully engaged in the process. There may be times when the process can prove quite challenging when dealing with painful feelings and memories, whilst as therapists we are trained to work with these situations, you as a client should be mindful that this may be part of your experience.

How long does a Counselling session take?
A session lasts for 50 minutes

How long does Counselling usually take?
This generally depends on the challenges that each unique client may face. Some challenges may be dealt with in a relatively few sessions (1-10) whilst others may take more time. Most clients will have a sense of how many sessions they themselves feel they need, this generally comes when the client feels they have gained the appropriate skills to cope with their presenting issue.

If I miss a Counselling session do I have to pay for it?
Once you give 24 hours notice that you are unable to attend, you will not be charged. However, if you do not give adequate notice the full cost of the session will be charged. On occasion, with the right amount of notice, we will attempt to re-schedule a session during the same week if a suitable alternative appointment is available.

What is the difference Between Counselling And Psychotherapy?
These terms are generally used interchangeably and invariable the therapist will use the appropriate approach based on the clients presenting issue. Counselling is generally applied for a specific issue the client is presenting with where as psychotherapy will engage in a deeper level of exploration to try and identify the root problem of a clients struggle with life, which, in many cases may require revisiting ones past, sometimes childhood, experiences.

Confidentiality
The IACP (Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) requires all its members to abide by the code of Ethics. The Code of Ethics and the Children First guidelines requires all information shared during a therapy session, to be held in the strictest of confidence with the exception of certain circumstances such as; you state you plan to harm yourself or someone else, you mention a situation where a child may be at risk of abuse or the name of an individual who has abused a child. In these instances we are ethically obliged to contact the relevant authorities. This will be explained in further detail during the initial assessment.

What to expect in a Reiki Session
A Reiki session generally takes 50 minutes, in some cases this can take a little longer. You are fully clothed during the session, with soft music playing in the background, however we do request you remove your shoes. If removal of shoes is a problem you can let us know. It is a confidential hands on approach, however this is a gentle touch and does not include any privately sensitive areas within the body. We do practice a non-touch approach at a client’s request. Generally it is carried out on a Reiki table, if this is not suitable to your needs it can be delivered to a client sitting on a chair. A session can invoke differing feelings and sensations for each client. The majority of clients report feeling cold and warm sensations, tingling sensations and feelings of relaxation and peace during and after a session. As the treatment lingers in the body for a number of hours after the session, we ask that you drink a lot of water and try to take a gentle approach to your everyday activities. Clients have reported feeling a heightened sense of emotional activity after a session, which is completely normal given that the energy can be released to areas that might have been blocked within the body and the mind.

Is Reiki suitable for Minors?
Reiki is suitable for all ages however we do request an adult caregiver to be present for anyone 16 or under.

Is Reiki harmful?
Reiki can do no harm because the patient’s higher self is directing the energy flow. The practitioner is merely facilitating the flow of energy, almost acting as a conductor.

Is Reiki a religion?
Reiki is not a religion. It can be defined as a spiritual path.
